Friday Adventures : Behind the Scenes.

As an artist I always enjoy behind the scenes photos, some might believe they are pointless
however, to me , behind the scenes inspire me.
They might be more geared towards industry interest but actually a lot of my clients enjoy looking at what their hairdresser is up to when not behind the chair.

This are some pics of this past collaboration with Ethan, Nina, Cy also the peeps at NO COMMENT magazine and FOUND from Austin,Tx

Can't wait to see the final work .....stay tuned!

bidi-bidi BANG-BANG

Hand in hand with the new year, new you craziness i decided to get a bang trim this week!

It is really strange how much 3 inches across your face can change you completely. I have never been too daring with my fringe because i am always over criticizing myself and i always say i have the BIGGEST face on earth so i would never be able to do anything too edgy with my hair.

Since its a new year and all i decided to dare a little. I did not hesitate to get a bang trim which i am used to getting all the time anyway...but this time was different i didn't try to control each bit of the situation i just sat there and let the magic scissors do their job.

omgeez

this is the result of just a few inches of hair out of my face.

I have an oval face but when using short hair and long bangs it makes it look round! so now that i have gained some perspective in shape and how it affects the way your face looks i can honestly tell you DONT BE AFRAID of making a little bit of change!

I have actually felt way better about my style . I had a very basic haircut and i've been thinking what i could do to change it up a bit and this was the perfect change i needed!

What do you think?

lets dare a little!

Raw artist Adventure

This past Spring i decided to go into an adventure with RAW artist of austin which is a great organization that showcases and supports indie talent in different areas or the creative world.

For the first time ever i found that "hair" was a category in a creative competition as big as RAW it immediately got me very excited and amazed that my passion and craft is being part of the creative world and stylist are being recognized as CREATIVES and ARTISTS.

I was able to put up my own show so i picked my own wardrobe, models , makeup and of course HAIR. It was an amazing experience and opportunity to be part of a night full of creative vibes all over!

One of my Signature styles i showcased at RAW

Now i am elegible to be part of RAW awards!
What does it mean?  It means that with your vote and nominations i am able to showcase again for a local title of RAW hairdresser of the year. WHOA!
Being a new stylist and a creative life is not easy without the extra push competitions like this provide for me.

Voting for RAW AWARDS is open and today is the LAST day to vote. I NEED all the support i can get. If you believe in indie artist like me since you read my blog and support my craft it will only take an extra 3 minutes of your day to vote

here's how!

It will ask you to LOG IN/ REGISTER

You only need your email + a password (it is only to keep track of votes not for marketing)

Once you do that go to my profile and at the top of my profile click on VOTE!

THANK YOU

Long Hair TIPS!

i am on vacation so here i am writing not in my desk and at my comfort but writing none the less.

Heres a hot hot topic i talk about a lot with my clients.

Today i want to talk about i LOVE the most which is... HAIR.
We all dream of having an amazing long mane and keep it healthy but really i have MANY , many clients and friends facing the same issue... SPLIT ENDS
and the common dialogue goes something like this..
"i need my hair to grow! so please don't cut it, i just cant afford to lose any length"
and to this i say YOU NEED to cut all the dead ends before you can grow it, your hair is like a plant. Picture a really pretty rose plant with yellow and dry leaves all over. Yeah its a nice plant but if you want to keep it blooming you need to cut the dead leaves off!
Same goes with hair.
If i can give you any good advice about growing you hair is CUT it as odd as this advice sounds.

Rule #1 Keep up with your trim Every 4 weeks. It is necessary to be in a regimen and keep up trimming as its growing so you can see good results.

Rule #2 Do avoid using HEAT on your hair. Do more air dry, braids, top knots etc. Keeping your hair under less stress and letting it be and enjoy your natural texture.

Rule #3 Use a moisturizing shampoo. If anything keeping your hair hydrated at all times specially with this process.

Rule #4 If you are chemically dependent (color your hair) you need to add an intensive treatment. THIS IS A MUST. Ask your stylist for a regimen of hair treatments to aid the process

There is no secret shampoo that will make it grow faster or secret ways to make this work. Its discipline. Listen to your body. Eat right, drink as much water as you can.

See the results!
Remember i am in the same journey as you  and i too want to have long hair by fall and its quickly approaching!

Any additional suggestions or tips you have done on your own? Share with us!

survive the madness

Here in Texas we are all preparing for one of the most exciting events in town SXSW an interactive festival around town where everyone from music lovers, movie directors, celebrities, local celebrities, fashion enthusiast and all sorts of creative people unite to celebrate, listen, watch and enjoy each others talents not to mention the great networking + FREE stuff everywhere.

All of that sounds like a lot of fun and games but in reality it takes A LOT of walking, sun exposure, hair madness and wardrobe malfunctions. This is why i have gathered a quick list of the MUST have items to survive this SXSW.

This 6 little items are essential to be picture ready in 1 minute!

1. First things first, you NEED a lot of sunscreen specially because the texas weather has been so crazy you never know what kind of change you will encounter and you need to make sure your skin is not going to suffer consequences.  I recommend an SPF of 30 to be the least just so you don't have to be re applying over and over.

2. Dry shampoo is so so so so great and handy dandy i truly love the new Paul Mitchell Dry Wash it literally makes your hair feel fresh and clean in less than 5 minutes. It gives an amazing volume if you have your hair down or wavy its a perfect way to keep it that way. If you have had it in a bun for the first half of your day, feel free to bring it down as the day cools off and add some Dry Wash and keep enjoying the show. No need to go back home! (remember parking sucks)  You can get your hands on this product at any paul mitchell salon or you can always come and see me at Transformation salon for travel sizes!

3. My favorite thing that is a staple in my purse before i leave home is bobby pins! they will save you from the crazy little hair standing up  or make it easy for you to clip away hair from your face when you are about to walk into a photo booth. They are truly life savers!

4. Why makeup remover wipes? because you will sweat, and its an easy way to reset your makeup in a quick stop. Wiping your face clean will help you avoid any blackheads caused by the dirt and heat of the day. Just simply wipe, remove dirt, reapply sunscreen no big deal.

5. Tinted Moisturizer is a great way to get a quick even coverage with a very natural look and it has a shield also against sun (the more protection against sun the better !)  instead of carrying a full on foundation + powder i recommend bb cream or tinted moisturizer. Quick and simple.

6.  Last but not least... Deodorant ! it is always safe to keep a travel size deodorant on your bag because you always want to be hug ready in case you run into your favorite celebrity , a long lost love or maybe even your future husband. You don't want to be caught off guard. Ever.

This is what i usually carry when going on sxsw adventures or even music festivals and it has made my
adventures so much more pleasant. Remember you always want to be picture ready, your memories are being made every second  and you have to look the part.

Hope this helps! if you have any questions or additional suggestions for all our readers feel free to comment below.

Happy South by girlfriends!
